Well, had a good few hours to play around with my graphics tablet and my new found knowledge of brush functions and such and have created Scene 1 of a story board idea I have - this will be scene 1 of 5.

Not fantastically drawn because as I mentioned before, this is a skill I do not possess, though, I am quite satisfied with the result as, quite frankly, on Wednesday I could never have dreamed of making this.

So, the scene is supposed to depict a (as of yet, nameless) adventurer looking out over a  'picturesque' valley below him, from a high cliff vantage point:

Well, have been in a blog free zone for the last 14 or so weeks due to a Hell of a lot of programming but Thursday saw the end of that section and the dawn of the Art lectures - Enter Photoshop!

I have used Photoshop in the past but never for free hand drawing/concept art etc, pretty much due to the fact that I can't draw - bit of a hindrance you may say!

Well suffice to say there is a whole load of rather awesome functionalities in Photoshop, mainly to do with the paint brush tool, that I had no idea existed and being shown what they were and how to use them was rather exciting and strangely invigorating for a guy who can't draw so, I post here Thursday lessons play around picture that I made while messing with brushes:

A nice finish and a final, foolishly forgotten hurdle.

Well, I have finished my Level Design Document and it is ready to be printed and stuck on a CD to be handed in promptly on Thursday, though it would appear that somewhere along the lines I have forgotten to include the Game Mechanics that will be included in this level (and if it were ever made, the game) so without further a do, here are the Game Mechanics:

  1. Walk
  2. Run
  3. Jump
  4. Pick up item
  5. Inventory/Item builder
  6. Interact

A Late Arrival

A wee bit late, given the fact that the 3D models are already finished (as posted before) but as they say, better late that never, right? This post is for my parer designs of both the Crypt and Catacombs section of Scene 1 of my level :-)

3D Level Desing Models

I have finally finished modelling my 3D levels using Google SketchUp!  Oh the relief!

Stuck some screen shots of them into Photoshop and made a Legend to show some of the key items, the quality isn't great on here because of the resolution but hey what can ya do?

3D Models

Ok, so I've been doing quite a lot of work recently on transforming my paper sketches for my level designs into 3D models (Not an easy task!).  Struggles with Google SketchUp (yes Ben, I know I suck!) have hindered my progress somewhat though I have finally approached some near finished versions. I believe Scene 1 - The Cemetery Section is totally completed, though Scene 2 - The Occipital Lobe Section still needs a few of the details putting in there (collectable items, the bridge you can see in the paper version and some other minor things) however the main shape of the map and some of the objects required are in.
Scene 1 - The Cemetery
Scene 2 - The Occipital Lobe
I still need to make the 3D versions of the Catacombs and Crypt from scene one, I also need to pen over the paper versions to get them scanned on and uploaded.

Scene 2 - The Occipital Lobe

My paper design for Scene two of my level is finally completed, now all I have to do is a couple of small rooms, one for the Catacombs and on for the Crypt (both from scene one..)  hopefully have those sorted for tomorrow, nice and set for Tuesdays lecture.
